Filmnächte Chemnitz

Chemnitz, Sunday, August 19, sundown

The City of Chemnitz puts together some epic events in their city center open-air cinema. The Rocky Horror PICTURE Show will be screened in this beautiful, majestic, German court yard surrounded by classic architecture and tons of culture and history.

At the Theaterplatz, originally Königsplatz, both the layout of the square itself and the construction of its buildings, give a unique, almost aristocratic appearance to Chemnitz. The buildings on today’s Theaterplatz itself were built at very different times. The oldest among them is the Petrikirche from 1888. It was followed in 1909 by the Opera House and the King Albert Museum. Construction on the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof began in 1928, and it opened to visitors in 1930.

Probably the most interesting thing about Theaterplatz is the progression of its name. As changeable as the history of this city was the name of the Königsplatz. Initially founded in 1909 as Königsplatz, in 1922 it was renamed Theaterplatz. The National Socialist rulers renamed it in1933 Adolf Hitler Square and in 1945 he was again named Theater Square – which he still carries today.

This is a screening of the film with LIVE Shadow Cast.

Hand props, such as rice, toilet paper, and squirt guns MAY be limited by the theater. We will report it here and update the page when we know more.
